Why You Need a Professional Headshot

August 1, 2019

So you don’t want to “shell out” money for a professional headshot. “An iPhone selfie will do just fine!”. My cousin, Fabio, has a camera. I’ll just get him to take my photo.

Yes, if the message you want to send to a potential employer, investor, etc. is “I couldn’t be bothered” or “That’s good enough”.

Professionally, your business portrait is your logo. It is the first thing people see on LinkedIn. Dressing professionally, as appropriate to your industry or the position you aspire to, shows you take your career seriously. You look the part so people see you in the role. Being photographed in a professional way is equally important and only a professional photographer can do that! This shows you understand the environment of the industry you’re in or looking to get into, that you are serious about being successful and someone others want to work with.

“So can’t anyone help me with that?” No. Professional photographers have experience with lighting each person in the best way. Not everyone photographs well in the same light. We understand composition and how certain angles flatter people in different ways. Most importantly, we understand how to craft an image of a person that carries a message…the message you want. All this goes into creating portraits that show you are willing to invest in your career, make you look great and communicate who you are!
